How it works
There are only 169 distinct starting hands in Texas Hold'em (13 pairs, 78 suited, 78 offsuit). Here they all are, ranked by real equity against a random hand — computed by our engine, not copied from a twenty-year-old table — along with the cumulative combo percentage ("top %") and the position where each enters the course’s opening ranges. Two caveats the table makes obvious: the vs-random ranking is NOT the real playability order (JTs plays far better than A2o whatever the number says), and the bottom half of the table is simply never played.
Frequently asked questions
Why 169 and not 1,326?
There are 1,326 two-card combos, but before the flop the exact suits do not matter — only whether they match. That groups the 1,326 into 169 strategic classes.
Should I play every top-20% hand?
It depends on position: the button opens ~45% and UTG only ~9%. Use the positions column or the preflop charts — the ranking is the map, not the strategy.
